Filler injectibles such as Restylane and Juvederm are available for lip enhancement. Fillers are convenient in that they do not require tissue be taken from anywhere on your body. The fillers are temporary, lasting from 3 to 12 months. Following lip enhancement with one of the injectable products, your lips remain swollen for a few hours only. You may return to normal activities the same day. Touch-up treatments may be necessary.
Fat Grafting can be used for lip enhancement. The fat must be harvested delicately then specifically prepared to assure that only pure, healthy fat is being re-injected into the lips. Since the body’s own tissue is used, there is no risk of allergic reaction with fat grafting. There will be some initial swelling and bruising. Some of the injected fat will be absorbed by the body, but the fat that establishes blood supply will be there forever.
Using our own deep skin and fat as a lip filler is a tried and true method for adding pure volume to a thin older appearing lip. Dermal fat grafts are taken from areas of our body with excess skin, commonly from areas with pre-existent scars. The harvested graft is prepared and placed within the lip through a small hidden incision. Swelling and bruising are temporary and results are long lasting.
