Full lips are a key component in beauty. We notice full, youthful lips at the same time we notice the eyes. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a pair of naturally beautiful lips. If you have them, the elements, smoking, and the aging process can erode their natural beauty. The corners of the mouth begin to droop. The middle area of the upper lip (Cupid’s Bow) begins to flatten out and lose its youthful fullness. Vertical wrinkles or Smoker’s Lines can surface.
Cutting edge lip rejuvenation can take aging and thin lips and enhance them to a well defined, full, youthful appearance. Many options exist, each offering unique advantages.
Injectable Lip Augmentation
Filler injectibles such as Restylane and Juvederm are available for lip enhancement. Fillers are convenient in that they do not require tissue be taken from anywhere on your body. The fillers are temporary, lasting from 3 to 12 months. Following lip enhancement with one of the injectable products, your lips remain swollen for a few hours only. You may return to normal activities the same day. Touch-up treatments may be necessary.
Fat grafting, also called autologous fat transplantation, permanently plumps up your lips using your own fat. Liposuction is used to take extra or unwanted fat from your body. Fat transfer to the lips is a safe, natural, non-allergenic procedure designed to restore damaged or diminished lip deficiencies. Dr Shifrin artistically places the purified fat to augment your natural anatomy. This accentuates your lips’ natural beauty.
Using our own deep skin and fat as a lip filler is a tried and true method for adding pure volume to a thin older appearing lip. Dermal fat grafts are taken from areas of our body with excess skin, commonly from areas with pre-existent scars. The harvested graft is prepared and placed within the lip through a small hidden incision. Swelling and bruising are temporary and results are long lasting.
Many of our patients combine their lip augmentation procedure with other facial enhancements, such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery, and nose surgery. At David Shifrin MD, we will take the time to answer your questions and help you determine which combination of procedures will help you reach your goals.
